Quassia, a small evergreen shrub native to Central and northern South America in the Simaroubaceae family. Know commonly as “bitter-wood”, it has a long history of use in the Caribbean. Europeans, learning from native healers, took up its use as a digestive aid*. The bitter-tasting extract made from its dried wood or bark is used by David Winston in his AP Compound and Alterative Compound.
