At Herbalist & Alchemist, sustainability is more than a mindset: it’s our responsibility. In 2026, we received the American Herbal Products Association’s Environmental Impact Award for doing what we have always done naturally- taking care of the Earth so that it can keep taking care of us.
Organic and Ecologically Harvested*
We use organic and regenerative organic ingredients whenever possible. For plants that must be foraged from nature, we work with responsible wildcrafters to never over harvest and leave a minimal impact on the environment.

Industry Pioneers
We were the first in our industry to become a certified B Corporation in 2010- only 4 years after certification launched. Since then, B Corps have become a global movement for positive change.
Walking the Walk
B Corps are required to meet certain sustainable and ethical standards of practice. The 3rd party B Lab ensures that these goals are being met through recertification every 4 years.

Purity and Safety
We have strict quality control procedures to ensure that you receive the purest possible botanical products. We screen for pesticides and use 3rd party laboratories to test for heavy metals, aflatoxins, and microbes.
Zero Waste Initiative
In 2025, we continued our 4th year of our Zero Waste initiative, diverting almost 94 % of total waste into recycling, reuse, or compost. Our entire operations for one year produce less landfill waste than the average American*.
Reuse at the Root
We work to upcycle items that are hard to recycle by donating them for reuse in our community. In 2025, for instance, we donated over 1,000 lbs. of reusable ice packs to local organizations.

In 2010 we were the first herbal supplements company to become a Certified B Corp. Last year, we celebrated 15 years as industry pioneers, helping to create an ecosystem of businesses as a force for good in the world.

How we source herbs now affects what will remain for future generations. We partner with like-minded organizations that build biodiversity and protect at-risk botanicals. We have established long-term partnerships with the American Herbalists Guild, American Herbal Products Association, & United Plant Savers.
Climate Conscious
We monitor our carbon emissions and have joined a collective of concerned businesses from the natural products industry working collaboratively to catalyze bold action and promote sound policy to reverse climate change.

Recycling Guide
Herbalist & Alchemist’s mission is to develop, manufacture and distribute herbal supplements that are of the highest quality, manufactured from plant material that originates in harmony with the environment. We continue that mission in the packaging of our products. You will find our bottles do not contain the extra outer packaging that many other brands add to their products which only ends up as more recycling or in landfills. We believe the minimalist approach in packaging our products is best for both the customer and the earth.
Please use the following Recycling Guide for our products:
- The amber glass used in all our products is recycling # 72 and fully recyclable. Our glass is made of 55% post-consumer recycled glass.
- The clear glass pipettes used in our droppers are recycling # 70 and fully recyclable.
- The natural rubber used in our droppers is biodegradable.
- The plastic caps used on all our products, including droppers, but excluding our 8oz bottle caps (we’re working on a more widely recyclable replacement!), are recycling # 5 and fully recyclable.
- The rollerballs in our topical oil roller bottles are recycling # 5 and their fitments are recycling # 4 and both are fully recyclable.
- Our plastic bottles are recycling # 2 and fully recyclable.

Natural Packing Peanuts
Our non-toxic compostable packing peanuts...
- Are re-usable.
- Are made from corn starch, not paper or Styrofoam, so please do not put them into your mixed recycling.
- Can be disposed of by dissolving easily in warm water and can be washed down the drain.
- Make a great addition to your compost pile (either dissolved in water or just mixed right in with your compost, they will biodegrade easily and provide good food for the earth worms).
Very occasionally, we will receive packages that contain foam packing peanuts. Instead of tossing them we will sometimes re-use them.
