A member of the Lamiaceae (mint) family, the herbaceous perennial Motherwort, native to Central Asia and southeastern Europe was brought by immigrants to North America. Its botanical name, Leonurus cardiaca translates from Latin as “lion-hearted” and is indeed supportive to the heart*. Our fresh flowering certified organic motherwort tops are sourced from US farmers. They are made into an extract that David Winston uses in several formulas: Women’s Formula, Women’s Calmpound, Cardio Calmpound and Tension Relief.
