Houttuynia, or Yu Xing Cao (“fishy smelling plant”), is a member of the Saururaceae family. The fast-spreading plant is often used as a ground cover. The leaf is used to clear heat in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary tracts, as well as the mucous membranes*.
