The Ginkgo tree is called “a living fossil” and it is the only member of its botanical family, the Ginkgoaceae. In the West it was only known from fossils until it was found growing in China. The leaves have no history of use in TCM but were found to contain interesting active phytochemicals during drug screenings in Europe in the 1970s. The Ginkgoflavones have been shown to support circulation and memory*.
