Buckthorn is an invasive, weedy small tree or shrub that is a member of the Rhamnaceae family. The bark has been used medicinally in Europe and the Americas for centuries. The bark of the Buckthorn needs to be aged for one year. The fresh bark is much too irritating for internal use. After it has been aged for the appropriate amount of time, it can be used to promote normal bowel function.
