Black Haw, also known as Wild Raisin due to its edible fruits, has long been used as a uterine remedy in Native American herbal traditions. Black Haw is similar to Viburnum opulus (or Cramp Bark). They are closely related herbs that are similar botanically, chemically, and medicinally. David notes “Based on my clinical experience and that of the Eclectic Physicians, Black Haw is slightly stronger as an antispasmodic. I definitely prefer it. It is funny that Cramp Bark got the common name based on this usage when for most of the 1830s- 1940s, Black Haw was the preferred species.”
